Why Prevention Is Essential
Georgia's climate supports the year-round prevalence of fleas, ticks and heartworms:
Fleas
Georgia's mild winters allow fleas to remain active all year. Fleas can hop from animal to animal, so pets in apartment complexes are especially at risk.
Ticks
Georgia's warm, tropical climate allows ticks to flourish year-round.
Heartworms
Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitos, which are active year-round in Georgia. It can take up to six months for a heartworm test to detect larvae in a pet's blood.
